The Hungry Pit

The woman, staring at the slimy, stinking opening in the ground whispers “what have they done to my church?”Patricia Reynolds has come here because her unbending hyper-religious husband has finally pushed her too far. She was thinking of just coming back home, back to her old church, but that church isn’t there anymore.

What do you do when someone or something has demolished the place where you first believed in God, a place you need now more than anything?

As she stands there she hears distant sounds of sirens and ambulances, fire trucks and police cars. She notices they are not loud and not from above ground. They are coming from that opening. While she is wondering what could be causing it, she suddenly stiffens and starts shaking: that’s not sirens…that’s people crying.
